My Take
This is such an unusual piece...it has beats that start to form an almost familiar-sounding rhythm only to quickly peter out as Dave whispers each verse, which are very short. The notes in the musical spurts seem to be riddled with tension, and likewise, there is an intense desperation heard in the speaker's voice as they say the words. By the way, the words themselves are nearly impossible to make out, so the section above only consists of what I was able to discern. Some of them are just outright guesses, though...For example, there are times when he repeats a phrase that either sounds like "help me" or "nothing" (or both, honestly). So, if you have any corrections to the lyrics, please let me know!
Overall, everything on this track from the sound of the strange musical spurts to the words themselves and the manner in which they are spoken seem to describe a great inner conflict and struggle taking place. The struggle seems to be with some kind of outside influence and the speaker repeatedly tells that influence to "get out" and even more repeatedly to try to empty their mind and think of "nothing." As such, one can't tell whether this outside influence is either benevolent or malignant. Could it be the speaker's conscience telling them to do the right thing? Or could it be intrusive thoughts that would lead to the speaker to destruction? This track leaves that aspect very wide open for interpretation. The focus appears to be only on the struggle itself, which we can all relate to no matter who we are.
