Lyrics

Just give me a reason some kind of sign
I'll need a miracle to help me this time
I heard what you said and I feel the same
I know in my heart that I'll have to change
Even the stars look brighter tonight
Nothing's impossible
I still believe in love at first sight
Nothing's impossible
How did we get to be this far apart?
How did we get to be this far apart?
I want to be with you have something to share
I want to be here I'm not there
Even the stars look brighter tonight
Nothing's impossible
I still believe in love at first sight
Nothing's impossible
Even the stars look brighter tonight
Nothing's impossible
If you believe in love at first sight
Nothing's impossible
I still believe in love at first sight
Nothing's impossible

My Take

The number one sound on this track is distortion, distortion, distortion. It permeates the backbone, the guitar sound, and Dave's vocals. The flange-like effect on the synths does remind me of a lot of the sounds from Ultra and I particularly feel like I'm listening to a close cousin of "Useless" or something. But the overuse of distortion here, I just...I get the desire to be creative and experiment with different sounds but...I prefer Dave's vocals to be completely unadulterated; that's just my personal preference. His voice is too extraordinary to be messed with, in my opinion. That is why I actually like the demo version of this song better, but only slightly. Dave's voice is clean and velvety in that one. But the instrumentation on it is even more sparse and unremarkable. Sound-wise, I'm not a big fan of this song, but I will say I do actually like the live version. Anyway, the lyrics are quite optimistic, though the way it starts, it sounds like an ego was bruised and the realization that there has to be a change is what kicks off the optimism. Overall, the words are very positive. Sonically, there is much to be desired, though.
